Last week we said goodbye to two great individuals - Dan's grandfather, Ernie Blair, and my grandmother, Jenny Delgado. Ernie passed away on Tuesday, August 16th in Memphis, TN, followed by my grandmother on Wednesday, August 17th in Los Angeles, CA. Not totally unexpected since both were in their 90's, but it's always hard to say goodbye.
Although I only met Ernie once, Dan often told me about what a great man he was, and how much he admired him. Ernie was a mechanic for Delta for years and years, and loved fixing and building things just about as much as he loved his family. Dan even returned from the funeral with a story about Ernie fixing the roof, using his walker to help him navigate across the top of the house. We will miss his strong, tenacious attitude towards life.
Ernie and Dan's grandmother at our wedding
Similarly, Dan was only able to meet my grandmother once, just before our wedding. I have fond memories of visiting her and my grandfather in LA, in the same house that my mom grew up in. She would do anything to help a stranger, or animal, in need. Like Ernie, my grandmother loved being around her family and seeing photos of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. We will miss her loving, caring, generous ways.
