A photo session with two friends

A Week of Goodbyes

Last week we said goodbye to two great individuals - Dan's grandfather, Ernie Blair, and my grandmother, Jenny Delgado. Ernie passed away on Tuesday, August 16th in Memphis, TN, followed by my grandmother on Wednesday, August 17th in Los Angeles, CA. Not totally unexpected since both were in their 90's, but it's always hard to say goodbye.

Although I only met Ernie once, Dan often told me about what a great man he was, and how much he admired him. Ernie was a mechanic for Delta for years and years, and loved fixing and building things just about as much as he loved his family. Dan even returned from the funeral with a story about Ernie fixing the roof, using his walker to help him navigate across the top of the house. We will miss his strong, tenacious attitude towards life.

Ernie and Dan's grandmother at our wedding

Similarly, Dan was only able to meet my grandmother once, just before our wedding. I have fond memories of visiting her and my grandfather in LA, in the same house that my mom grew up in. She would do anything to help a stranger, or animal, in need. Like Ernie, my grandmother loved being around her family and seeing photos of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. We will miss her loving, caring, generous ways.

Sin City with Dude

Last weekend we took a quick trip to Las Vegas to celebrate Dude's birthday. I was a bit nervous about hitting up Sin City with a toddler in tow, but I had quite a few people reassure me that they had done a similar trip (with success!) when their kids were around the same age.

It was different to visit with a little one, but we had a great time! Kendall swam in the Palazzo pool, browsed through the shops at The Venitian, ate at Tao and Otto, and thoroughly enjoyed herself in the oversized hotel room bathtub. I'm sure she has many trips to Vegas in her future, but I'm glad that we made the first one a memorable one!!

BBQ with Friends

We love it when our friends Jeff and Jasmin Bethel come to town! This year we joined them for a bbq to celebrate Jeff's dad's birthday. Jeff recently took a job at Oregon State University, so we're hoping that we'll see them more often now that they'll be in the same time zone!
