Here I find myself on a Wednesday afternoon, wishing for the weekend to be just a bit closer. It has been quite a week for the Weatherbys. Let me rephrase...it has been quite a week for Kendall Weatherby, and mom and dad are hanging on trying to keep up. And Monday was a holiday!!
For those who don't know, my little baby was diagnosed with pretty severe reflux a few weeks ago. We've tried everything...rice cereal in the breastmilk, longer feedings, frequent burping during feedings, holding her upright and reclining after feedings, eliminating dairy and spicy foods from my diet, and most recently, Prevacid and BioGaia, a probiotic. Her projectile vomiting has gotten better, but at times it gets bad again. The worst part is the crying and screaming associated with what we can tell is pain in her stomach. She has her good days and bad days, but the pain really hasn't improved and her sad, pouty face is enough to make me cry at times.
We've been to the doctor over 15 times in her short 6 week life, and this week has been no different. A couple of weeks ago, a urine test to rule out a UTI came back showing blood in Kendall's urine. A repeat test a week later showed the same thing. So, round 3 was needed to do further investigation. After 4 failed tests with a bag attachment, doctors decided it was time for a catheter. Round 1 of that yesterday came up dry, so it had to be repeated today. We're still waiting for results. But, the blood tests from yesterday and today's ultrasound of her bladder and kidneys looks normal. I don't want the doctors to find anything wrong, but then again, it would be nice to have something that we can fix. If it's just reflux, we probably just have to keep trying things until something works, or she grows out of it.
I'll end with recent shots from Valentine's Day. Hopefully happier holidays are ahead.
